Project Title

Developing multiliteracies in the language arts curriculum

Overview

Texts that the students encounter are increasingly multimodal and not necessarily dominated by linguistic text. Many other resources are available for making meaning. These are inadequately addressed in the current syllabus.  In the 21st Century, the notion of literacy needs to be broadened to encompass alternative forms of literacy. The affordances of ICT and multimedia allow the social construction of literacy practices which have yet to be fully exploited in our local classrooms.

This project is to demonstrate a theory-practice orientation to classroom work where the researchers and teachers co-design a model of 21st century literacy practices that engage students in learning with technology in the language arts curriculum.
