Project Title
Designing pedagogical support for enabling inquiry learning through a learning community approach

Overview
Research has shown that many of the inadequacies of today’s schooling are very much rooted in the culture of the classroom. Minor procedural changes such as the use of technology alone may not produce much effect on changes (Hewitt, 1996). There is a need to change the culture of schooling. However, enthusiasm for situating learning in real-world problems has to be balanced with the realities of real-world classrooms. Students may lack the necessary knowledge and skills that scientists possess to deal with real-world problems; teachers may not have the know-how on facilitating this process. Recognizing that the shift from a traditional learning approach to a learning community requires a shift in epistemology and learning process, there is a need to scaffold the students as they move through this change process.
